Fine Art Magazine May Edition

The art of Lynn Rodgie grows naturally out of the environment in which she lives and works; the Scottish countryside around her home provides an endless stream of ideas for her vibrant, expressive landscapes. As she says; ‘The soft rolling hills of the borders is perhaps not as spectacular as the rugged north or as picturesque as the Lake District, but it has a gentle pull that grows on you over time. The geometric shapes and colours of the ploughed fields or rows of hay bales in a golden field are visions that get me itching to pick up a paintbrush’. After studying at the prestigious Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, Lynn worked in design for a number of years, and this experience has had a lasting influence on her work, which is both styish and stylised rather than fully representational. She works primarily from photographs which she says “enable me to capture the pattern, shapes and composition so I can enhance the colours and vigour of the scene when I am back in the studio.” Lynn paints in water based oils as she enjoys the versatility of the medium and she uses them to extraordinary effect when describing the interplay of light and shadow. These are paintings which make a huge impact in any setting so do contact us if you would like to view a selection in person.
